Japan’s largest sushi restaurant chain, Sushiro, has opened its first store in Beijing, China, marking a significant step in its expansion within the world’s most populous country. The new store, located in the Xidan Joy City shopping mall, features four private rooms, each accommodating up to 10 customers. Diners can order from a touch screen and receive their meals from a conveyor belt, offering a modern and convenient dining experience.
Japan’s Biggest Sushi Chain Sushiro Launches First Beijing Store
This Beijing location is Sushiro’s 45th store in China, following its initial entry into the Chinese market with a store in Guangzhou in 2021. Since then, the chain has rapidly expanded across several cities in the country.
Founded 30 years ago and headquartered in Osaka, Sushiro operates over 500 restaurants in Japan and has established a presence in other Asian countries, including South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore.
Sushiro’s expansion in China comes amidst competition from other Japanese sushi chains, such as Hama Sushi, which also opened its first Beijing store earlier this year.
Notably, China’s ban on the import of seafood from Japan, due to the discharge of treated radioactive wastewater, means that conveyor belt sushi restaurants like Sushiro rely primarily on locally sourced seafood for their offerings in the Chinese market.
